jam fold tables
If you are fortunate enough to reach the final stages of a tournament
and you end up playing heads up with the blinds going up, it
becomes imperative to know the optimal strategy based on how many big
blinds you have left to play with and whether you should jam (go all in)
or fold. Understanding this concept will allow you to optimize your
chances against an unknown opponent who may outplay you post flop.
Bill Chen and Jarrod Ankenman, in their book "The Mathematics of Poker"
have researched calculated and outlined a game theory optimal play for
heads up with under 20 big blinds. So what is all this about?.
Well.. when you are under blind pressure, you will reach a point at
which you will be wondering if you should move all in or wait for a
better hand. If you fold and wait for a better hand you may get it or
your may get a worse hand which will have you wishing you had gone all
in with your previous hand. So it turns out that for optimal play, as
your stack / big blind ratio dwindles, your jamming hand ranges get
wider. With 20 big blinds or less, any Ace is a jam. Any king down to
K-9 is a jam. K-6 is a jam for 15 big blinds or less. 11 big blinds or
less u can jam with K-2 .
